Science 8 An Interesting Problem–Keep in view!

Ice cubes are dropped into 50 ml of ethanol. The ice sinks.

 

As the ice melts, it rises slightly in the cylinder. Small bubbles seem to be streaming from the ice and from below the ice. “Mixing lines” appear in the liquid below the ice.

 

 

 

 

 

The final volume after the ice melts is.

What do you think is happening? Look closely at the starting and ending volumes. How can you explain? How could you test your explanation.?
